‘Tu jahan aya hai, tera ghar nahin, gali nahin, gaon nahin, kucha nahin, basti nahin, duniya bhai jara dekhe ke chalo’..the song was as if sung by Mukesh for himself and millions who remain stuck in the old cast of assumptions where tomorrow matter a most.

Mukesh Kumar Mathur, more popularly known as Mukesh, was a singer, when on this day, August 27, just hours have passed by, who still rings the truth of life through his songs.

‘Jab who gana gate the, lagta tha ye admi sach bol raha hai’(when he sang, it appeared as if he was telling the truth) were the words of famous writer Javed Akhtar, and that was the way the legendary singer Mukesh had made his place in people’s minds.

With an in-imitable tonal flair Mukesh in his career had sang about 1300 songs and few of them have forever made homes in our hearts. Be it a romantic number or sad song Mukesh always connected his voice to the surreal world hardly leaving any space for pretensions.

Whether ‘Kabhi Kabhi mere dil mein  or Mein pal do pal ka saayar hoon, Mukesh had a voice texture as the voice of actors like Manoj Kumar, Raj Kapoor(one of Mukesh’s greatest admirers), Feroz Khan or Sunil Dutta, the man is still immortal with his memorable songs.

Many playbacks made careers following Mukesh’ style and tonal quality but, none of them could be Mukesh

Lost and behold, when his  Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye from Anand . The male version of the song is sung by Mukesh and is picturised on Rajesh Khanna. It is considered to one of the favourite songs of Rajesh Khanna. The lyrics of the song are penned by Yogesh and Salil Choudhury.

Kahin door..just Mukesh’s vocal honesty carry any listener in its wings of imagination to the vastness of the pink horizon and beyond and beyond.
